During tonight’s Stewart County Budget and Finance Committee meeting, budget committee chair Howard L. Jobe waxed philosophical and compared a budget to a haircut.
“If you don’t like it, give it some time: it will change,” Jobe said.
Jobe said budgets, like haircuts, “Are not forever.”
Jobe also said he appreciated the “humor” and “good-nature” displayed during tonight’s budget committee meeting.
“If you lose your sense of humor, all is lost,” Jobe concluded.
No Property Tax hike likely for coming Stewart Co. Budget
Stewart Co. Budget Committee met tonight and it appears now there will be no property tax increase, officials said.
Don’t move the property tax,” said budget committee chair Howard L. Jobe during tonight’s meeting.
Along with no property tax hike, budget committee members were looking at step pay increases for county employees this coming fiscal year.
Officials said there should be a $3 million dollar fund balance in the Stewart Co. Budget at the end of the fiscal year.
Also, all non-profits are looking to be funded at least at last year’s funding levels with increases going to the Stewart Co. Athletic Association and the Stewart Co. Senior Citizens Center.
Local sales tax revenues are up, with many folks doing more shopping locally due to Covid concerns, officials say. And an influx of Covid relief money to local government’s is also credited with keeping the property tax rate from seeing an increase, officials say.
The Stewart Co. Budget committee is scheduled to meet again Thursday, April 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Stewart Co. Visitors Center.
