There were holes in the anticipated update at Monday night’s Dover City Council meeting regarding the status of the inspection of possible foundation problems with Dover City Hall.
The holes in the report and/or update was that there was no report or update. There were no questions asked and no answers given about the status of the building.
At Monday night’s Dover City Council meeting, there were no updates, no reports, no questions, no answers about the status of the inspection underway to determine the extent of possible foundation problems with the town hall building.
There was no status report asked for or given during Monday night meeting regarding the efforts underway now to determine if Dover’s mid-1990s era town hall has major or minor problems with its foundation.
After the meeting, city officials said they are optimistic the problems are minor and will be relatively easy and inexpensive to correct; but that was not stated during the public meeting.
City officials, employees, volunteers and citizens have noticed cracks forming and spreading in the walls of city hall and that there are reported cracks in the. basement walls. Doors and windows apparently do not open or shut properly, officials say.
Some Dover residents expressed concern when the building was being built that it was going into a hole and that compaction and earth preparation for the building seemed haphazard. Other city residents said the project was exceptional and the building should last for many, many decades.
Last month interim Dover city administrator Charles Parks asked for and received up to $4,000 for Seth Rye Engineering, Erin, Tennessee, to determine the extent of the problems with Dover’s town hall.
City officials are waiting for Rye’s report.
This story will update ………….. in fact, this story will update soon. I have some information and it sure more than you would have gotten if you had attended Monday’s city council meeting
