Forty one years ago this month these two Stewart County, Tennessee sisters — (pictured above, Vickie Stout, 16, right, and Carla Atkins, 14) — went missing. Three weeks later their bodies were found in the Lost Creek/Mint Springs area of Land Between the Lakes in Stewart County. Both had been shot with a shotgun. No one has ever been arrested or charged in the murders. In the last seven years the case has received a great deal more media attention, and public scrutiny and discussion than it had in the 33 years prior, thanks mostly to Facebook and other social media. —— Lots of theories, speculations and rumors have swirled around the case. Still no arrests. ——- In the next few weeks leading up to the anniversary of the girls’ disappearance — which was on Sept. 17, 1980 and the discovery of their shotgunned bodies on Oct. 5, 1980 — —– I will repost some of the articles I have written and gathered along with photos and some new (and old) information on this case, which is considered to be one of the most high-profile unsolved murder cases in Tennessee and the LBL region. ——-Lots of people have been accused of either being complicit or knowing something about this case. Many people have been falsely accused, because not everyone accused could have possibly had anything to do with this heinous crime. However, for forty one years, a killer (or killers) has gotten away with no punishment for the brutal murders of Vickie and Carla. It is possible that murderer and/or people who know details of these murders walk among us.
