Across our country and in Dover, Tennessee and Stewart County, the Memorial Day Observance Honors All who “Made the Ultimate Sacrifice.” Memorial Day is to recognize those soldiers who gave their lives in service to our great country, the United States of America. We enjoy the freedoms we have today because these brave soldiers throughout the years paid the ultimate price with their lives. Their sacrifices protect and preserves our sacred Constitution of the United States of America. Their sacrifices were to protect our freedom.
The Memorial Day Observance held at the Stewart County Visitors Center in historic Dover, Tennessee in 202` was a beautiful and moving tribute to our soldiers who died in combat. We will always remember their sacrifices. We will remember the sacrifices of their families.
Memorial Day Observance ceremony 2021 in Stewart County, TN started with a Welcome by Kathy Freed of the Stewart County Veteran Service Office. Stewart County Mayor Robin Brandon welcomed those in attendance and the official “Posting of Colors’ was conducted by Boy Scout Troop 501, Dover, Tennessee. Our National Anthem was beautifully sung by Stewart Countian, Madison Parker while being accompanied by her father, Robert Parker. Invocation was given by Pastor Willie Lyles, of Fort Donelson United Methodist Church. Special Guest speaker of the observance was CW4 William Radford.
A Special Presentation of the ‘Thirteen Fold American Flag Presentation’ was conducted by American Legion Post 72, Dover, Tennessee. An Honor Roll Salute to all Veterans and a Roll Call of local and area veterans who have passed on during the previous year were read with a “ringing of the bell” as each name was read. There was a formal presentation of Memorial wreaths and then Benediction. There was a Ceremonial Honors Rifle Volley by the Douglas M. Lyons, Dover Post 72 Honor Guard.
Then there was the official “Retrieving of the Colors.” There were special closing remarks with the ceremony and then a free luncheon was served to all who was in attendance today by the VFW Post 4730, Dover/Stewart County, TN.
Until tomorrow, the impressive, LIfe-Sized “Traveling Korean War Monument” a full scale reproduction of the Korean War Monument in Washington D.C. is still on full display on the grounds in front of the Stewart County Visitors Center and was Open and FREE to the public.
