I was at the turntable at Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tennessee a few days ago and saw this very cool old school, probably mid-80s – Dodge Truck with a cabover camper. It was a very nice outfit. The couple in it were at the overlook and walked back to the truck. I was close by taking shots of one of the eagles in a nearby tree. I had noticed the truck had Oregon plates. I asked the man if they had driven to Tennessee from Oregon. “
“Yes,” he said. “We didn’t go fast, but we made it”
I told him how much I admired his truck and camper and he seemed pleased. His wife got in the vehicle and I asked them for permission to take a few shots, assuring them I would not get a shot of their plates.
“Sure thing,” he said.
When he fired up the truck to take off, I heard the distinct hammer of a diesel engine.
To me this is the almost perfect camping outfit.
They drove it to Fort Donelson National Battlefield from Oregon and planned to drive it back.
I took some artistic liberties with my photos and created an artPic gallery, below.
