Piney Campground upgrades are coming soon! According to a news release, the improvements to the popular campground in Land Between the Lakes at Fort Henry, Tennessee will be multi-faceted. The upgrades are expected to increase visitor use of the popular campground area, which was once owned by private citizens. Private landowners owned all of Land Between the Lakes at one time, including Piney Campground. When the federal government acquired the peninsula located between Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake (Tennessee River and Cumberland River) via eminent domain all families were forced to move.
Piney Campground has always been popular and even more so in recent years.
Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is planning to conduct improvements at the Piney
Campground in the Fall of 2022. Reasons for the improvements include public safety, budget efficiency,
repairs, and increased visitor use, a news release said.
Status: NEPA Complete
Projected Start: Winter 2022
Resource Management Projects
As part of carrying out the mission of the USDA Forest Service, agency resource specialists develop proposals that will enhance or maintain resource values on public lands, as well as generate products. In addition, the public may submit proposals for various uses and recreational events. A necessary part of the planning for these is environmental analysis and documentation, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and agency direction, according to a news release.
