LBL Elvis! Yes! The King of Rock and Roll was a hard-working pauper who made the rounds in historic Dover, Tennessee as a young man. Part of the lore, and with some documentation, it is a fact Elvis did work some in the Land Between the Lakes area.
He was a truck driver and made deliveries to the Natcor plant in Dover as the plant was being built and as it was first starting up production efforts.
There is also anecdotal evidence that Elvis did more than just work in Dover. Lore tells us that Elvis had a pretty serious girlfriend here in Dover. It is also told he played guitar and sang on occasions at several spots in the historic little river town on the Cumberland.
It’s also told Elvis rented a small apartment on occasions in Dover and stayed overnight and on weekends. This was reportedly at the apartments and small rental units that were part of the old Cherry Motel in Dover, Tennessee.
He also had a favorite hangout in a part of Dover near the Natcor plant where he, according to local lore, played guitar and sang on stage. This was just prior to his cutting his first record at the famed Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee.
There is much more to the story of Elvis in Dover, but that is all I have for now. Keep checking in with LBLUS.com for more LBL Elvis updates!
