Fans of Connor Andrews, a ‘star’ athlete and scholar for the Stewart County High School Rebels will continue to get to watch the elite athlete compete on the gridiron as he has committed to playing football with the Murray State University Racers in neighboring Murray, KY. Attending the announcement that SCHS Rebel Connor Andrews would continue his gridiron career at Murray State were: Above, Pictured, front row seated from left: Connor’s mother, Starr Andrews; Connor Andrews; his father, Thomas Andrews and brother, Tristan Andrews. This past football season was, without a doubt, the best and most successful football season in the long and storied history of Stewart County, TN High School as the Rebels went deep into the State Playoffs. Connor Andrews played a key role in the success this year of SCHS and in the building efforts of SCHS Football throughout his high school and middle school career.

He has a Grade Point Average of 3.5 and achieved a high ACT score. He is listed as 5’11 and between 180-183 pounds. His wingspan is 71” and hand size is 9 inches. He has a 40 yard dash time as a lighting fast 4.56 and his Pro Shuttle time is an even more impressive 4.2.

Connor made Three All State Teams this year in 3A: TNFCA and TSWA and State of Tennessee High School Football; 3A : All Academic Team for two years in a row; 3A Region 6 Most Valuable Player Athlete of the Year this year and 3A Region 6 Wide Receiver of the Year last year.

All of the many college and university recruiters who had their eyes on Connor Andrews noted his remarkable speed. In some of the notes on the SCHS Rebel athlete it was said, “His speed is incredible.” Also noted was that his speed translates onto the football field as there is “shorts and shirts” speed and “football pad speed.” Connor Andrews was noted to have obvious “football pad speed.”

He has been a standout athlete in other sports at SCHS, including being a star baseball player and outstanding pitcher for the SCHS baseball Rebels.

Middle School Football is where I got the opportunity to see Connor Andrews really shine and develop as a football player. I coached against Connor as he was a student athlete at Stewart County TN Middle School and I was a football coach for the Houston County TN Middle School Fighting Irish. During Connor’s Eighth Grade year, the SCHS Middle School Rebels and the HCHS Middle School Fighting Irish went head to head three different times during the season. The teams played and hosted one another on their home fields and then the two teams wound up finishing one and two in our conference and went head to head for the playoff championship in West Tennessee. During our first regular season game that year it was a very close contest with the home Irish losing to the visiting Rebels by only two points. Later in the season the Middle School Irish traveled to Dover to play the host Rebels at SCMS and again the Rebels bested the visiting Irish by two points. In the much anticipated playoff game in West Tennessee the Rebels again came out victorious over the Irish — again by two points! In all of the contests, Connor Andrews was one of the players that was a standout for the Rebels and continued to their solid team play.

Throughout the historic season just completed by the SCHS Rebels, I had followed the team’s amazing run and had noted the obvious contributions and achievements of Connor Andrews, whom I had coached against during the rival days of SCMS and HCMS.

Many Stewart County High School Rebel football fans are also fans of the Murray State Racers and many Rebels have gone on to attend nearby Murray State. Rebel fans have often wished that area and regional universities would recruit more local talent and this certainly would enhance the attendance of the local/area/regional fans at nearby university games. No doubt, there will be even more Stewart Countians in the stands in the coming years as they get the opportunity to continue to watch their own elite athlete and dedicated scholar athlete, Connor Andrews, continue his feats of athletic prowess as he helps Murray State compete in the Ohio Valley Conference.
