‘Never Forget!’ ~ United States of America

I will never forget where I was on September 11, 2001. I turned on the television that morning to see the first Twin Tower engulfed in flames. I was confused at what I was seeing and then on live TV I saw the second plane fly into the second Twin Tower. Life for me along with life for everyone in the United States and even in the world changed forever. I will never forget the heroic sacrifices of our first responders who sacrificed their own lives to save and try to save others. I will never forget the aftermath, the aftershock, the prosecution of the seemingly endless wars, the war of terrorism — which continues today and will go on tomorrow. I also remember how the United States came together as a country. We were all nicer to one another following the 9/11 attacks on our country. Most of all, the sacrifices of our heroes, the loss of life of the innocent and how we, as a country, came together in the spirit of unity and compassion toward our fellow countrymen and countrywomen. I find myself at a loss to write any words that are even remotely adequate for this day. It seems as if it happened yesterday and in another way it seems like it was another life. I pray we can come together as a country again. I pray it does not take an attack like we experienced on September 11, 2001 to bring us together.

Here is an excerpt and link to the 20th anniversary commemoration of the 9/11 victims.

“The heart of the mission of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum remains the annual commemoration ceremony. Family members of 9/11 victims will gather on the Memorial plaza to read aloud the names of those killed in the 9/11 attacks and in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.”
