Infantry drilling at Fort Donelson National Battlefield ~ Dover, TN (Stewart Co.) ~ LBL area

A dozen or so onlookers watched as a small, yet precise group of Union and Confederate infantry drilled today, Feb. 13, 2022, on the upcoming 160th anniversary of the strategically significant and important Battle of Fort Donelson. The troops were wearing period replica Western theatre uniforms and carrying true to life replica weapons. The troops fired their weapons several times and there were several programs during the day. The soldiers endured the cold weather last night outside, but did not have the same snowy, icy weather the Union and Confederates endured in Dover/Stewart County, Tennessee during the actual battle. The anniversary of the gunboat battle of Fort Donelson is Feb. 14 where “Iron Valentines” were exchanged between Confederate gunners and Union gunboats.
