They ain’t makin’ no more lake land for sale around the Land Between the Lakes area and any that is for sale is fairly high. Don’t get me started. My grandparents, great grandparents and parents between them owned, at one time, about a mile and a half of Kentucky Lake shoreline in Land Between the Lakes from the Stewart County side of what is now Piney Campground all the way until you could see and almost touch the Paris Landing Bridge.
Then the government come and took it and paid us pennies on the dollar. Once a fed told me that we would not have been able to pay taxes on it so it is good the feds took it from US. I said, “So, you don’t think we were smart enough to sell a few lake lots here and there?” Oh well …. that is the story the federal government does not want told. And some of the local good old boys now say that Land Between the Lakes needs to be sold to developers. …. Not without a scrabble ….. Photos by David R.
